After the pandemic hit earlier this year, I kept coming back to two things: How unique this time will be in history & how surreal it is to be part of humanity living through it.
I felt drawn to document what life looks like internally and externally in the way that I knew how, through informal intimate portraits and audio.
This year has thrown a lot at us: Murder hornets, earthquakes, hurricanes, an on-going pandemic, economic blows, daily political fires, literal wildfires, and fighting for racial justice and equality all in a tumultuous election year. It has been a lot to ingest and process, while simultaneously managing our daily lives. One of the results of 2020 is the way in which the pandemic has altered our relationship to our homes and the outside. Many of us are stuck inside most of the day and relish any fragment of time spent outdoors. I chose to use what limited or (unlimited) outdoor spaces people could occupy as reprieve from the confines of being stuck inside for my backdrops.
These are some of our stories.
All photos were shot on digital and medium format film, outdoors, primarily at people's homes, work spaces, or frequented places .
